I love making tests. This time I tested Rubio Monocoat’s DuroGrit outside for one month on different wood species compared to untreated wood. Each plank was split in half. One side was treated with Rubio Monocoat DuroGrit and the other side was left untreated for comparison. The wood species I tested were birch, pine, ash, oak, beech, elm, walnut, and mahogany. Birch, beech, ash, and pine were all hit pretty hard by the weather. Elm actually performed surprisingly well in my opinion. Oak and mahogany naturally handled the outdoor conditions better than some of the others. And as you can see in the video, the walnut changed a lot after just one month outside. What really surprised me was the DuroGrit side. One month definitely wasn’t enough to see any noticeable damage. It almost looked untouched. This was also my first time using DuroGrit, and I found it straightforward to apply. I liked that it comes in different colors too, since different woods react differently outdoors. For example, with walnut you could probably use a slightly darker tone if you want to keep more of that deeper color over time. I’ll keep these pieces outside through more sun and rain and share another update within the next month or so. Curious to see how they’ll look after a full season outside. @rubiomonocoat
