For example: The hamstrings cross both the hip and the knee. When you do deadlifts (Hip extension) you can see more growth higher up on the hamstrings, closer to the hip — For leg curls (Knee flexion) you can see some preferential growth down lower, closer to the knee. Also, yes, the calf works on leg curls. The first 15° of knee flexion (Top of the curl) is performed by the gastrocnemius.
