I never prepared in the fall for winter when my kids were young—I scrambled the night before the 1st ski day and paid the price. Go through hand-me-downs, check boot buckles & bindings. Are they broken? Is the mitt zipper stuck? Does the jacket have enough space for layers without feeling claustrophobic? Kids grow fast- you can’t assume any gear from last year fits. Nothing is more discouraging than getting out of the car that first day, only for your child to declare, “It’s too tight!” Can’t wait for the gear guide? Here are a few quick recs: Clothing: I support brands I use and trust that also prioritize sustainability and non-toxic waterproofing.
