Bathroom Breaks During Surgery? . Surgeons generally don't (typically) wear diapers during surgery. If a surgeon needs to use the restroom during a long procedure, they can "break scrub," meaning they will step away from the sterile field, use the restroom, and then re-scrub before returning to the operation. Assistants or other members of the surgical team can often cover for the surgeon while they are briefly out of the room. . "Breaking Scrub" requires "Sterile Re-entry": #Surgeons can temporarily leave the sterile #operatingroom environment to use the restroom and when they return, they must re-scrub their hands/arms and don a new sterile gown and gloves before rejoining the procedure. The key? Teamwork - long surgeries require team effort, and other members of the surgical team (assistants, nurses, anesthesiologists) can help maintain the sterile field + continue the procedure while the surgeon is briefly away. In some cases, especially w/ very long surgeries, bathroom breaks might be planned strategically to coincide with less critical parts of the procedure. .: It's not standard practice for surgeons to wear diapers during surgery. While it has been mentioned as a possibility in some online discussions, it's not the norm.
