If you grew up hearing “We don’t have money for that,” even when there *was* money, it’s probably affecting how you handle money today. Here’s why: as kids, hearing that repeatedly creates a deep sense of scarcity. It’s not just about the money—it’s about security, safety, and worth. You subconsciously believe there’s never enough, so you may overspend to compensate or use shopping to fill an emotional void. That’s why, even when you’re making good money now, it can feel like you have nothing to show for it. You’re stuck in a cycle of spending, not because you’re careless, but because your mind is still operating from a place of lack. *Here’s the aha moment:* it’s not about *how much* money you make, but *how you think and feel* about it. No amount of tactic will fix the problem until you heal your money mindset. Scarcity will keep you stuck, while an abundance mindset opens the door to building wealth. Now, let’s be clear—this isn’t about shaming our parents. They did the best they could with what they knew. But if you find yourself saying similar things to your kids, there’s another way. In my home, instead of saying, “We don’t have money for that,” I say, “That’s not a priority right now.” It teaches them to make intentional choices, based on what’s important, rather than acting out of fear or scarcity. As my kids get older, I’ll encourage them to find ways to earn their own money to buy the things they want by

As my kids get older, I’ll encourage them to find ways to earn their own money to buy the things they want by "solving a problem" they identify in the home: ie. organizing their room or raking leaves, then negotiating with me on how much they'll get paid for it. This helps them understand that money can be created by solving problems and adds to their sense of empowerment (while building an entrepreneurial mindset). I want them to see that money is abundant, not something that’s always out of reach. If you're ready to break the cycle of scarcity and shift your mindset to abundance, check out my coaching program. It’s time to rewrite your money story and take control of your financial future. Check out my website to get started 🫶
