Yep — this is real, although the meme undersells what actually happened. On September 15, Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky introduced eight articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Three center on Massie’s allegation that the administration has continued hostilities in Iran without the congressional authorization required under the War Powers Resolution. The other articles raise allegations involving civilian protections, strikes on suspected drug-trafficking vessels, the Pentagon’s treatment of Sen. Mark Kelly, Venezuela and Yemen. These are Massie’s allegations, not adjudicated findings. And this wasn’t a press-release-only stunt: Massie stood on the House floor for more than an hour and read the 34-page impeachment resolution into the record. He made it a privileged resolution, which ordinarily would have required House action within two legislative days. Then came the twist. Speaker Mike Johnson sent the House home a day earlier than planned, effectively preventing the impeachment resolution from reaching the anticipated vote before lawmakers left Washington for the midterm campaign recess. Johnson called Massie’s impeachment effort a “stunt” and defended Hegseth’s performance; Massie accused leadership of avoiding unfinished business. The Pentagon, meanwhile, rejected Massie’s characterization and said the department remains behind Hegseth’s leadership. So the accurate headline isn’t simply “Republicans are impeaching Hegseth.” This is one Republican congressman attempting to force the Republican-controlled House to consider impeachment—and Republican leadership preventing that vote from happening before the recess. And that may be the most interesting part of the story: Massie tried to force everyone to go on the record. Congress went home instead. 👀 #ThomasMassie #PeteHegseth #IranWar #Congress #USPolitics
