I understand how frustrating it is, going into a shop or website and your size not being available or catered to. There’s so many women who are getting skipped over in the fashion industry and in most cases, will opt for fast fashion brands over ethical brands, due to the limited size range. I think it’s so important as a sustainable brand to be able to cater to at least one or two sizes above a 12-14, because the average size for women is 14-16. Going beyond that is even better but obviously there’s more costs with more sizes (small businesses have smaller budgets)… In May works off of a made-to order basis, which allows me to cater to a larger size range. I know this may not be the case for a lot of other small businesses who work with manufacturers and have to pay for larger quantities with limited size ranges. But if you are a small business and have been thinking extending your size range, I really suggest it. More women need to feel included and the stigma that “plus size doesn’t sell” is so wrong and out dated. I hope that there are more beautiful women, in all sizes, that are able to shop sustainably through In May.
