In school, having my own business was never even presented as an option or a possibility. It was even looked down upon going to tafe. My only option presented to me was go to uni to become: a nurse, teacher or medical professional. So, naturally at 18 I went to UNI and did a nursing degree. Nursing was not for me and stressed me completely out (the pressure of peoples lives in your hands after a few deterorating patients on placements). I felt like a failure if I pulled out, so I pushed through and finished the degree and even was offered a grad year. I went water skiing for a graduation party and after had a near death experience in a coma in ICU with 2/3 of my lungs filled with pneumonia. After months of recovery and learning to walk again and not being well enough in time to start my grad year, I said screw it to nursing, and went to tafe for a year to pursue my natural talents in the arts. After finding a passion for sculpture and making my first mould with roof and gutter silicone I discovered the thrilling world of mould making and casting. With my goals being to be a stay at home mother in the future, I built up the courage and started my own resin art small business. I couldn't afford the moulds I wanted, so I started making my own. Other people also wanted them, and 4 years later, I have my own website and have built up a collection of hundreds of different hand crafted premium silicone moulds and sell to other small businesses. Now I'm moving into the flower preservation industry where resin artists want larger bigger block moulds for preserving wedding bouquets, funeral arrangements, memorials, keepsakes, gifts etc. I'm extremely grateful to be here and have achieved more than i ever dreamed when starting a business 4 years ago. Sometimes i wonder where I'd be if I went to art school at tafe at 18 instead and saved myself years of stress doing something not right for me and a 30k student loan 🙃 so this audio hit home for me. Finally, here's a new mould available! A elongated rectangle measuring 20 cm tall and 5 cm wide. Available at www.hillsideartstudio.com.au
