🚨 ROMANCE FRAUD CASE UPDATE: Frederick Kumi Back in Court 🚨 There was another pretrial conference in the romance fraud case against Mr. Frederick Kumi. WHAT HAPPENED: The judge declared the case "complex"—meaning it involves enough evidence and legal issues that it will take longer than a typical criminal case to prepare. Kumi agreed to waive his right to a speedy trial, giving both sides more time to build their cases. NO TRIAL DATE YET: No plea deadline or trial date was set during Monday's hearing. Those dates will be scheduled at future court appearances. NEXT HEARING: Status conference scheduled for November 3, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. CUSTODY: Kumi will remain in custody until at least the next hearing. THE CASE: Kumi (aka "Abu Trica") is accused of running a romance fraud scheme targeting elderly Americans. Prosecutors allege he built fake online relationships, gained trust, then requested money under false pretenses. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
