It's pretty horrific, at least to me, and leads the story down a dark psychological spiral. One of the things the story is about is the fact that the system that profits off of suffering creates nothing but monsters, and Rick-Misha parallel was no different. They were two very similar people, essentially not much different than one another, not in their morals, or their pasts. They were both, each in their own way, manipulated by the organization that destroyed their lives, and lead them to a turning point that would change everything, forever.
