We did this in our new house and it totally transforms the space. It makes the ceilings appear higher and it’s much more aesthetically pleasing.

I have high ceilings. I did some research and the info that came back stated about 4 inches above the window... which turned out to be perfect.

don't put them too high or when you open them they show off the wall above the window making it look too high

I bought curtain rods from target that came with a guide on where to mount them. It made it so easy.
