This story is worth the read. Several months ago we were contacted by an antique dealer that had a lead on some very specific pieces they thought we could restore. Honestly, we had no intention of buying any more pieces at that moment but knowing that she said it would be worth our time, we took a drive to Franklin, TN. When we arrived, we found the home had been vacant for many years. The home was originally designed and built for Mrs. Juanita Esmon. She passed around 30 years ago. We met with her granddaughter, and she was happy to tell us of the history surrounding the pieces we purchased. You see, Mrs. Esmon was no ordinary housewife. She was a hardworker that cared for everyone that crossed her path and would feed anyone in need. She and her husband moved to Franklin after they married. He was a soldier in the U.S. Army serving in World War II and she was a housemaid/cook. It was that skillset that led her to be on the staff for not one, but TWO Tennessee governors. From 1953 - 1971 Buford Ellington and Frank Clement alternated back and forth between terms. From pur best understanding, Mrs. Esmon was there for the majority of those terms. Stories tell of her hardwork, dedication and her reputation of being loved and cherished by all that had the honor of working alongside her. She was loved so much, that she was gifted several pieces of heirloom quality furniture from the governor's mansion that she served diligently. Later in life she also received many community awards for being an outstanding citizen, opening her home to care for the elderly and still catering the best events full time. Time has a way of taking things over. So as the years went by, those pieces she cherished began to deteriorate when the home was vacant. Thankfully our friend and contact was able to connect us with the family that wanted to see these pieces live on along with Mrs. Esmons story. We were just the people to take on that challenge. Check the photos below to see Mrs. Esmon. Dated October 18, 1940, this mahogany buffet is constructed of solid cuts and veneer, dovetail joints and solid brass original hardware in the Federalist design. Featuring three drawers and two doors, all with working locks and key. The finish is in a rich custom brown mahogany with a satin sheen to highlight the grain. The interior drawers have also been lined for a subtle detail. If you've been searching for a classic piece with history, look no further. History, function, beauty - it has it all. #DIY #furnituredesign #homedecor #Home #paintedfurniture #furniture #flipping #antique #history #tennessee #franklintn
