This VERY strange-looking pull-up setup is actually AWESOME in a number of ways. 1. The grip and the pattern of movement puts the lats in an excellent position to contract. 2. It puts you in a neutral grip, which is generally easier on the shoulders. 3. Gripping on the "fat" ends of the bars is excellent for grip strength. 4. It braces your wrists against the safety rails of the rack, which helps stabilize your body, reducing swinging and cheating. I call it a Two Bar Angled Fat Grip Pull-Up and to do it, you will need two empty bars and a power rack (so probably not a busy gym exercise but definitely great for a home gym, though). You're going to set the one safety rail likely about as high as it can go (this depends on the rack). The rail should be high enough so that when you set the other ends of the bar against the bottom side crossbeam of the rack (to brace them in), the fat bar ends are leaning against the rail. There should be about 6-8 inches of fat bar end over top of the rail. Now, grip near the top end of the fat ends of the bar (about one inch below the very ends I found to be about right). This angle is not hard on the wrists at all, I found. IMPORTANT... Your arms should contact the rail just below the wrists. These additional points of contact are important to help pull the bars against the rail so that they don't shift to the sides. It really helps lock the bars in place during the exercise. One side note...while I've posted a forearm-braced chin-up before in order to shift more tension to the biceps, when you move the bracing point up near the wrists like you do here, you don't get the same amount of shift in tension to the brachialis. If the brace point was down near the elbows, it would be a different story. #pullups #lats #calisthenics #fatgriptraining #bodyweightexercise
