✨️ Sacred Stones ✨️ I can't even begin to describe how happy I was when I visited these ancient sites, honestly there is no way to describe it. I've wanted to come to Ireland and explore the megalithic artwork for years! Ireland is absolutely filled in burial chambers, tombs, stone circles, and standing stones that are covered in carvings from the Neolithic period. It was amazing to see how well preserved they were, but also really interesting to see the ones that had been weathered over time. These carvings have always been a focal point for discussion, and most of the time people argue about what they could mean and why they were created. Some carvings are clear as day in their symbolism, such as the one which maps the lunar cycle, and others are more of a mystery that we can only speculate on their original meaning. They could of course, also have just been created as decoration for these ancient sites, which makes sense as these sites were not only places for the dead but also temples for ritual and celebration, especially during significant solar alignments. Interestingly, the largest of these sites (Knowth & Newgrange) were built towards the later end of the Neolithic period, when they were then sealed up and not entered again for thousands of years. We visited probably around 12 chambered tombs over 2 days, each with their own unique significance, and there was still so much we didn't see! All I can say is if you are interested in megalithic art and the ancient history of Britain and Ireland, then you have to go and see these carvings for yourself 🌟 . . . . . #megalithic #neolithic #megalithicart #newgrange #knowth #loughcrew #ancientireland #Ireland #sacredsites #neolithicsites #burialchambers #stonecircles #stonecarvings #carvings #neolithiccarvings #burialchambers #Britainandireland #pagan #paganism #paganireland #equinox #Solstice #wintersolstice #autumnequinox #standingstone #hedgewitch #hedgerowhealing #witch #Druid #celticireland
