OPEN DIALOGUE — Let’s Talk: FCC Chairman Brendan Carr held a press briefing Thursday and responded directly to questions about the timing of the agency’s decision to launch an early review of Disney’s eight ABC broadcast licenses. •	The order came one day after President Trump publicly called for ABC to fire late-night host Jimmy Kimmel over a joke he made about First Lady Melania Trump following the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting. •	Carr stated — “There was no external pressure. There was no suggestion from outside parties. There was no request for agency action coming from the outside. This decision was made based on our evaluation of the situation.” •	Carr says the investigation into Disney’s DEI practices actually began in March 2025 — over a year ago — when he sent Disney a letter citing evidence they were dividing employees based on race and gender, which he says violates the Communications Act. •	He noted that Disney recently submitted a second round of documents after an extension, and he said the FCC felt Disney was, in his words, “hitting us with the okey-doke.” •	First Amendment advocates are calling the move politically motivated regardless of the stated timeline, with one attorney saying — “The timing makes it evident that these justifications are merely a facade.” Disney confirmed it received the FCC order and said it is confident in its record as a license holder. Two very different versions of the same story. You decide. Drop your thoughts below. #OpenDialogue #FCC #Disney #ABC #USA --- “Views expressed are those of FCC Chairman Brendan Carr during his April 30, 2026 press briefing.
