WE INHERITED THE DISPUTES — LET US NOT INHERIT THE HATRED — Maulana Ishaq Madani My brothers, I say this with Allah as my witness: among the Shia, great scholars and highly learned people have emerged. Yet the fundamental problem is that each group has inherited its own historical narratives and the books upon which it relies. Some Shia Muslims, after reading certain historical reports about Sayyidah Fatimah (RA) and the events following the Prophet’s ﷺ passing, form a particular view of Abu Bakr and Umar (RA). Others, after studying different reports and sources, reach a completely different conclusion. The same applies to the reports surrounding the final illness of the Prophet ﷺ and the well-known incident concerning writing materials. Each side presents its own sources and argues over which narrations are authentic and which are weak. But ask yourselves: Who among us today was actually present at those events? We were born centuries later. We inherited books, reports, interpretations, and the opinions of scholars. People are often deeply attached to what they have learned, and that does not automatically make them unbelievers or people without faith. So let us understand one another. If your brother has learned something from his scholars and sincerely believes it, and you have learned something different from yours, why must that disagreement turn into hatred? We all affirm the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Let us hold on to that common ground and become brothers. Whether those historical personalities were good or bad, Allah will ultimately judge them. The real tragedy is that we continue fighting over these disputes while our enemies benefit from our division. No scholar can end these arguments if we keep turning them into endless sectarian battles. Let us discuss these matters with justice, knowledge, and honesty—not hatred. Let us stop declaring one another disbelievers merely because we inherited different interpretations of history. We did not witness the past. But we can choose what kind of future we create. May Allah unite the hearts of Muslims and grant us the wisdom to respect one another despite our differences. Voice of AHLULBAIT
