❗️20% Black Friday discount❗️ Many babies tend to arch their backs. This is often a temporary response due to crying, slight tension, reflux, or simply exploring different positions. However, if the position becomes frequent and seems involuntary, it can cause a series of motor challenges and is the most common cause of flat head syndrome. The more signs your baby shows, the more reason to help them get back on track: 🔸 Arches the body backwards 🔸 Struggles with tummy time 🔸 “Drops” head or lifts arms during tummy time 🔸 Holds arms back when sitting upright 🔸 Does straight sit-ups 🔸 Arches backwards when rolling 🔸 Is delayed in milestones that require rotation (rolling, pivoting, crawling) 🔸 Sleeps with the head straight in the middle (instead of to the sides), or sleeps in an arched position with the head back (see video) 🔸 Has a flat head (brachycephaly) 🔸 Belly crawls in the center without crossing movements 🔸 Bum scoots ❗️Remember, one finding alone is not a concern! All things on this list can be completely normal when they occur alone and only occasionally. ❗️ The quality of baby milestones depends on good rotational muscle activation, which is exactly what is challenged in arching babies. When the baby is strong in the body’s extensors, it becomes less natural to look and move to the sides, which challenges motor development. Therefore, it makes sense to help arching babies achieve better rotational activation. I have created an evidence-based online exercise program for arching babies (and flat head). The exercises are set up in order of priority, so you can choose how much time you want to spend on them.
