Fixing a Life-Saving Satellite Phone – Qualcomm CPU Repair and Outdoor Testing In today's video, we take on the challenge of fixing a satellite phone that was bought second-hand for a trip to the remote western mountains. Originally priced at 12,800 yuan, this fan snagged it for only 2,800 yuan. However, just when he was about to embark on his journey, the phone refused to turn on after two weeks of use. That's a huge problem, especially for a life-saving device meant for emergency situations in remote areas! After opening up the phone, we found some surprising things: a satellite phone card, a 2GB memory card, and a regular SIM card slot. The internal build quality, however, didn't quite match its high price. We disconnected the battery and ran a current test. The motherboard had a startup current spike to 50mA, indicating something was wrong. Upon further inspection, we found that the issue likely stemmed from the Qualcomm 801 CPU. We applied solder flux to the CPU and used a hot air gun to re-solder it at 450 degrees. Once we put the phone back together and plugged in the charger, the screen lit up! Problem solved - but to ensure long-term reliability, we re-soldered the CPU again and added extra thermal paste for better heat dissipation.
