In a niche in one of the side chapels is a marble bust of a youth with fine features, Edward James Auriol lying on a pillow, hand on heart, as if asleep ... In fact, he died tragically at the age of 17 when he drowned in the Rhône river in Geneva one bright morning on 19th August 1847. A student at King's College London, he was the 'tenderly beloved and only child' of the Rector of St Dunstan's where his memorial is. #drowned #memorial #diedyoung #stdunstanschurch #londonguide #tourguide #thelondonspy #davidharry #epitaph #fleetstreet #tragicdeath

If you come on my Roman London tours, I will often trust people enough to allow them to see and even handle a genuine Roman coin minted in London. This one comes from the emperor Constantine, in around 311 A.D., at the same time as he converted to Christianity. However, he didn’t start using Christian iconography on his coinage at this point, and the reverse even contains a pagan god’s image. The coin was minted in London, which only had a Roman Mint for very small periods during the time of the Roman conquest. I am trying to collect samples of all the different Roman emperors, who had coins minted in London, I just need one more to complete the set, however, this is extremely rare and I doubt I will ever find it. #th#thelondonspya#davidharryi#visitlondono#londonhistoryo#londonguideo#romanlondono#romanbritaino#romancoino#constantinethegreata#earlychristianitynkn#unknownlondontouri#ancientcoinsi#numismaticaa#romanemperord#londonmint
