This exchange bothered me. Heilbrun had already testified that it took a long time to get the necessary court orders to evaluate Lindsay. But then his answer got… weird. He started talking in a way that seemed to leave open the impression that Reddington or his office somehow knew about it or had something to do with the delay. So Red comes right back: “Are you suggesting I’m trying to leave this jury with the impression that it was me or my office that interfered or impeded…?” And boom. Objection. Sidebar. Now, I understand why the prosecution objected. At that point Red is confronting the implication, not just the timeline. But my bigger question is: Why was that implication allowed to hang there at all? Because if you’re going to suggest that the defense somehow delayed access to Lindsay— say it. Prove it. Or don’t leave breadcrumbs in front of the jury. That’s what I think Red was reacting to. And this is becoming a recurring issue with these experts: The answer gets slippery.
