🟢 NOTES: Afiyet means health but it’s an archaic word now and we mostly use it in some expressions. We use the word sağlık (health) in modern Turkish. Sağlığın nasıl? How is your health? 🔵 The verb ol- (olmak) means “to be, to become, to exist” and in these examples it is “to be”. You will hear the word “olsun” (may it be) a lot in so many expressions. Örnek (e.g.): Geç olsun güç olmasın. Better late than never. 🧠 May it be late (but) not difficult. 🟣 Interestingly hayır (no) and hayırlı (auspicious) have the same origin in Turkish. Today we have two hayır words with different meanings and stresses. They both come from the Arabic hayr (good, fortunate). 1. haYIR (stress is on the second syllable) Ar. hayr > Tr. hayır (fortunate) Hayırdır inşallah… O-oh. I hope everything is alright… 2. HAyır (stress is on the first syllable) Persian “nâ” (non) Arabic “hayr” (good) na-hayr (no, non-good) > hayır Imagine the English language borrows the word no bueno from Spanish as “no” and overtime only “bueno” survives but now it means “no”. That’s what happened when we borrowed na-hayr from Persian. 😆 Thank you for reading until here. Do you like this format? If yes, then comment EVET and I will send you some gifts. 🎁 #turkish #türkçe #languages #learnturkish
