The black is the ground. And you should ground it on the frame somewhere,not the battery. You could fry it with certain cars your way

Order is correct, but for reference(no hate) not all red is power, some are mixed up. Always look for + and - symbols on the battery 🖤

I HIGHLY recommend using a ground away from the battery as hydrogen gas can be released, which in turn can ignite. The strut tower is my go to.

Never connect the black cable to the negative (–) terminal on your dead battery. This is very dangerous, could result in a possible explosion.

I really never knew the order mattered. I did learn the hard way to make sure red and black don’t touch when the other side is connected (very young)
