It started with a conversation at the urinal…. He was a familiar face I’ve seen around the gym. We’ve shared the sauna a few times, exchanged knowing head nods that gym regulars do, and even talked about sobriety. He started telling me about his weekend in Savannah. “All I had was club soda with lime,” he said, a hint of something in his voice I recognized all too well. “How was it?” I asked. “Boring,” he replied. But instead of jumping in with my own story or trying to convince him otherwise, I asked him something simple: “Do you feel like you’re missing out on something?” That question hung in the air between us. In that moment, I watched him realize something – without alcohol, the environment itself was boring. The truth was right there, plain as day: he wasn’t missing out on anything. The place was boring to begin with. Here’s the kicker about life without alcohol: it’s anything but boring. The real irony? Your life with alcohol is often so mundane, so predictable, that you need alcohol to convince yourself it’s not. You’re not drinking to enhance an amazing time – you’re drinking to mask a boring one. Sometimes the most powerful revelations come in the most unexpected places. Even at a urinal in your local gym. If you’re tired of using alcohol to enhance your perspective on life, and don’t know how to stop or where to begin. Send me a DM or comment the word ‘CURIOUS’ and I’ll give you a peek inside of the Going Beyond Sober coaching program. #SoberDads #GoingBeyondSober #MentalFitness
