It is with excitement that I get to share you with you… I have accepted a position at @thenorrislab and will be moving to South Carolina to pursue my dream of being a patient scientist! I visited the Norris Lab in January for their scholar program. I went excited and hoping to learn some cool things, then come back home and keep going on with life. However, when I was there, I was immediately overwhelmed with a longing feeling, like I was being pulled to somehow be more involved with the lab and EDS research. I soon found out a position was opening at the lab and knew I needed to apply. If you would’ve asked me before my trip if I’d ever move across the country for ANYTHING, I would’ve said absolutely not, but that week changed me and now, here I am… moving across the country. I am so excited to see what this next chapter looks like, but also devastated to leave the west coast. I have spent years feeling misunderstood and out of place, yet just more recently have I found my people and community that embrace me fully for who I am. I have spent the better part of this past year investing in a local community that has brought myself and others so much joy and support. Oregon brought me my best friends, so many self discoveries, access to healthcare, and an accommodating education. I have expanded past horizons I never would’ve imagined for myself and been consistently supported by the amazing relationships I’ve formed here. The person that moved here, is not the same person who will be leaving, and I’m forever grateful to this place and my circle. Oregon and the PNW are home, so I will be back one day, but it’s time to say “yes” even if I’m scared (and trust me, I am SCARED). BUT I’m going to do it even if I’m doing it scared. Oregon made me feel at home, but I also knowing being surrounded by pioneers in the EDS research community will also uncover feelings of belonging I have yet to experience. @thenorrislab and South Carolina, here we come!!!!!🔬 #patientscientist #ehlersdanlossyndrome VD: Tayler, a young white thin woman with medium length brown hair, in multiple clips doing medical research while there is a large amount of screenshots of comments all along the lines of, “if women (or you) want to complain about the lack of research, why don’t you just go do it yourself.” To which the next text reads, “okay, I will.” Lyrics: And I’m too clever and then I’m too stupid dumb You hate it when I cry unless it’s that time of the month And I’m too perfect ‘til I show you that I’m not A thousand people I could be for you and you hate the whole lot
