A special-education teacher at Cottonwood Elementary was arrested after court documents said she poured a spoonful of hot sauce onto a student's tongue as punishment for being "defiant" and repeatedly sticking his tongue out at teachers. The incident was reported to have happened on September 15, 2026, and a Houston County Sheriff's Office investigation followed. The teacher was arrested on October 26 and charged with child abuse. Houston County Schools later confirmed she was no longer employed by the district, and she was released after posting a $2,500 bond. The case remains pending, and she has not been convicted. What started as a student sticking out his tongue ended with hot sauce, a felony charge, and a teacher losing her job.
