“Everyone paid $9”-not true. If tickets were 3 for $25 then they actually paid $8.33+1(given back)=9.33 so 9.33x3=27.99+2 (he kept)=29.99, $.01=tax

Well tickets were $25 or $8.33 each not $9 each. So he gave each $1 inc himself (so now he has $3. His 2 pals have $1 each. So $2+his $3 is the $5

they didn't pay 30, they paid 25. so 9 dollars each is 27 dollars with 2 dollars of change which gets you to 25

You just said it wrong. It was $25. $3 to each of them would = $28, and the kid kept $2 more, which makes $30
