One problem though, afghan is a synonym for pashtuns, thus Afghanistan =land of pashtuns. In country 70% of pop non pushtun, that name = problem

I am sure Afghani is used in other Hindi. It is similar to Nepali, hindustani, etc. given the historical context I have to disagree.

Afghanistani is the correct form. If they do not have it in dictionaries, they need to add it. Dictionary is not God's word that we cannot change it.
