Do you plop? I hair plop with a t-shirt. 2 products I'm loving are Miss Jessie's Multi-Cultural Curls (from Target) and Lus Love Ur Curls.

using a denman brush to comb thru a leave-in is key to making really defined curls (for me). Innersense is an amazing alternative to Devacurl
