Despite what our youth obsessed society tries to tell us, it’s ok to LOOK OUR AGE. We enter our midlife years with compliments flowing around “not looking our age”. That aspiring to look younger than our age is a base level expectation assumed of every woman entering the different seasons of her life. A narrative that plays so perfectly into the hands of the lucrative 62-billion dollar anti-ageing industry. Age = less Youth = more BUT Embracing our age unapologetically with confidence does not imply a personal failure to defy our body’s natural ageing process. Our value and worth as complex humans does not change or decline depending on our trips around the sun or the depth of crinkles on our bodies. At 52 years old, I’m finally starting to give my body the peace and acceptance it has always deserved. This body was never flawed, broken or in need of repair. This body is a unique and resilient vessel that allows me to experience the world. It is imperfectly etched with the stories, emotions and experiences of a life well lived. I am proud to reach this unapologetic age and see it through much kinder and compassionate eyes. Eyes that don’t compare or critique or use society’s youth beauty standards as a measuring stick. Eyes that instead look for beauty in wisdom, strength, compassion, determination, experience, joy and the raw and real. I’m 52 years old. and proud to say… I LOOK MY AGE. Thank you @agismisneverinstyle for another wonderful age positive campaign challenging ageism, changing the narrative around ageing and improving over 50 representation in fashion and the media. #ilookmyage
