I lived in Key West for three years! Book a boat and do Key west sand bars/keys. boca grande is my fave. You have to go to Dry Tortugas via plane.

Key west is a beautiful town rich with history. However- beaches are not great. If you want clear water this is not the spot. Go to Hawaii

Further up in Marathon is Sombrero beach. Very nice hidden gem.

Fort Zachary is pretty but it’s all rock and shell instead of sand, which isn’t comfy. So...bringing a foam mat for under a towel is key lol
