Amazing how consistently HR is the least humane part of any organization. It's like a magnet for sadists.

it cost more to hire and train new people then to train/educate/motivate your current employees.

my boss works like this and our team always shines while other managers throw the people they don't like under the bus.

If you hire good people then even the bottom 5% are good people.

literally just help underperforming employees and then whoever is in the bottom won't be next quarter

FAANG does this to this very day. What effect on corporate culture/efficiency does this have? Seems like a cruel policy

Why y’all mad? If their bottom 5% then why keep them, big companies only care about money so that makes sense

Horrible advice - my father a buisness owner taught me that you should fire the bottom 5-10% of your employees every year

I’ve been in corporate America for almost 30 years now. I am leaving with a very nice severance package in a month. I doubt that I will return.

Why stack ranking doesn’t work: it’s subjective rather than objective & creates a workplace rife with backstabbing & sabotage

This policy fosters a culture of fear and fear kills innovation.

if you keep getting rid of the bottom 5% eventually you will get rid of people who have been doing a good job.

Our company does it too. At the end of the year, they force 5% of the employees into the low rating category. If they don’t “improve”, they get fired.

Differentiation. Not a bad concept. But you don’t fire your bottom performers unless they are consistently not improving. You work to improve 1st
