Flagstaff AZ used cinders on their roads! It makes the roads red and gritty but is much better for the roads and city!

Here in Anchorage, Alaska they use brine water followed by sand. They no longer use dry salt.

Plus the road salt is terrible when walking dogs. Dogs need booties or it will mess up their paw pads :(

I am a specialist in remediation soil impacts and salt is among the hardest thing to clean up...all you can really do is wash it downstream..
