it would be built ontop of a concrete footing.. look at the roof sheathing and look for newer/diff color sheathing from the rest where they patched it

Or does your house have stairs?? In some really old homes at the bottom of the stairs the top of the stair post comes off in some older homes.

They often didn’t use blueprints, even as recently as the mid-1900s, or not very detailed ones.

One other way that you can figure out whether or not a house had chimneys is by the architectural style. As long as the house didn't see drastic mods

I’ve seen cabinets like that, if the drawers aren’t marked, you could go by the dates of other contents. Be fun to look.

2nd floor fireplaces would have been reinforced with extra joists as well, so if you can’t see the basement or 1st floor pads you might see this.

our old house in howell, NJ was an old inn and had fireplaces in every room. In the basement there were incoves made as hiding places for the war.

I saw the show and the jar of teeth. In England people used to put offerings into their ‘walls’ and snooks in the buildings fibre for protection.
