They absolutely should not be loosing weight in the winter no matter what age. It’s easier for them to loose the weight then to put it back on....

Also horses that are morbidly orbese in the summer and their owners say "Oh they will loose weight in the winter" That is so unhealthy for them 😳

My horses genuinely annoy me when they poo in there hay 😂😂 my heart horse would only poop in one spot and would freak if there was poo near her hay

My horse turned in a ribby asshole in the winter. He’s 20. Senior feed and a blanket and lookin good again.

my horses gain in fall then I make sure they maintain through winter and taper off hay and increase pasture in spring.

they burn more fat keeping warm in winter, I make sure my mare has quite enough forage to burn so she doesn't get thin.
