Throat singing a Germanic rune galdr for prosperity, strength, protection, transformation, wisdom, and alignment with the full cycle of becoming. This chant is based on the rune galdr chanted by Heilung in “In Maidjan,” which recites the reconstructed names of all 24 Elder Futhark runes in their traditional rune row order. When I last shared this galdr, many comments claimed that it was merely an “alphabet song” and that runes had nothing to do with magick historically. While the Elder Futhark was a writing system, the conclusion that runes therefore had no magical use is historically false. Runes were used for ordinary writing, names, ownership marks and memorial inscriptions, but surviving objects also contain runic charms, protective amulets, healing invocations, curses and incantations. The Swedish History Museum preserves rune-inscribed amulets explicitly identified as "galdrar" which are magical songs or incantations, including formulas directed against harmful spirits. In Norse tradition, Odin gained the hidden knowledge of the runes through sacrifice, hanging wounded upon the world-tree for nine nights until he seized their mysteries. This account appears in the Hávamál, an Old Norse writing preserved in the Poetic Edda and largely presented as the teachings of Odin. It later describes charms for healing, protection, breaking bonds, calming storms, resisting sorcery, and communicating with the dead, showing that runes were understood not only as letters, but also as sacred powers connected with magic. I personally chant it for blessings and good fortune in all areas of life. I aim to post the rune galdr at least once a year, and I find this current astrological window, which is one of the rarest in our lifetime, known as Barbault's Basket as the perfect time, this year 'round.
