Are you or a client getting stuck above parallel when you try to squat deep? Squatting deep is great for building tons of muscle because of the great stretch that occurs in the tissues when you get low. But squatting deep requires mobility! You need lumbar, hip, and ankle mobility to squat ATG. Commonly, the someone’s inability to shift their center of mass backward is what causes them to get stuck above parallel. When someone can’t shift back, they won’t have the external rotation required for a mobile pelvis and lumbar spine. Some of my favorite movements to shift the body backward to squat deep are: Non-weight bearing movements in supine - Dead Frog! Wall Squat Hold - at 60 degrees of hip flexion and a low reach!
