2024 will be the best year for your career. Believe it and claim it family. I’m back with my first career content for 2024. Although it’s a challenging job market, you STILL can land a remote job in the tech industry and beyond. Here are my 10 career tips to land a new job and advance your career in 2024: 10 Career Tips for 2024 1. Job Referrals are King, find someone that works at your target company on LinkedIn and ask for a referral to “skip the line” and get a job interview 2. Focus your job search exclusively on LinkedIn…why? Because you can be aggressive! Reach out directly to the hiring manager with a DM expressing your interest 3. If you’ve been in your current job 18 months or longer, it’s time to start applying. Even if you love your job, see what the market will pay for your skills 4. Decide on your career strategy - is it “grow within” or job hopping. Base your decision on your promotion potential and career growth opportunities 5. Use the “pitcher & catcher” job search strategy - apply for 3 jobs a day on LinkedIn (pitcher), add the open to work feature and be active on LinkedIn so recruiters can DM you(catcher) 6. Ask for a raise or promotion - your manager will not say “you are ready for a promotion” - in your next 1:1, tell her “I want to be promoted this year”, your manager can’t read your mind 7. Know your salary & total compensation requirements BEFORE the first job interview with the recruiter. Be confident with your salary negotiations 8. Practice for your job interview, don’t “wing it” - companies are being very picky in this job market - they have leverage now. Show them you are the best candidate 9. Always negotiate your job offer but BE FLEXIBLE. In this job market, you might not get the base salary you want or sign on bonus, but you might get more stock - keep asking for more 10. Become a thought leader on LinkedIn - the best way to standout is to become a Top Voice on LinkedIn by contributing to articles.
