Is that not the sub-floor? My house was built 1916 on pier and beam. I stripped floors down to sub-floor and recycled a high school basketball court

You tested for lead, yes? Sometimes people put layers of flooring on because it’s dangerous to refinish floors with lead stains/paints

So that is subfloor and not the original floor. You pulled up the probably original hardwood flooring. Because of size it needed a subfloor

I have a home built in the 1890s and one room had the outer part painted like this in a robins egg blue and I loved the look so much, I left it as is!

Not to be nosey, but those probably were the original floors if the house is a Victorian. They always put down thin plank wood over wide subfloor
