The Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage, along with other government agencies, is taking steps to address the challenges facing Lake Naivasha. The ministry has put measures in place to protect wildlife from drought, including water trucking, buying hay for animals, and constructing small ponds and dams to preserve water ¹. The Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Deborah Barasa, launched the Lake Naivasha Basin Ecosystem Management Project, a three-year initiative aimed at restoring forest ecosystems, reducing land degradation, and enhancing biodiversity conservation. The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through WWF-US, with a budget of $1.8 million ² ³. Some of the key interventions include: - *Forest Restoration*: Restoring 6,600 hectares in South Kinangop, 6,800 hectares in North Kinangop, and 22,000 hectares in Geta forest. - *Sustainable Land Management*: Promoting sustainable agriculture practices and climate-smart agriculture. - *Water Conservation*: Protecting key water resources and water catchment areas. - *Community Engagement*: Engaging local communities in conservation efforts and providing alternative livelihoods. The government is also working with stakeholders to address issues like illegal fishing, pollution, and degradation of riparian land so they say 👆🏽
