It’s because it was privatised and profit is being taken out of the system. Each region is a monopoly for a specific train company.

Maufacturers allow techy nerdies to take over design with unnecessary expensive tech & neglect the actual design. Techies made the 737 crash

Privatisation rarely drives up standards. Cheaper materials = higher profits.

Passenger numbers have more than DOUBLED since privatisation, punctuality improved and safety is the best it’s ever been. Now breathe.

renationalise. but if you remember BR you will remember APT and the difficulty on the East Coast with the wires and stock. its not a new issue.

cause of the ROSCOs they lease the trains to train operating companies. they're cash cows with no competition. there is no motivation to do better.

That's because unlike Japan they never privatised the infrastructure. National rail controls the railways and as a result they still use tracks from..

Well LNER (the train company with the cracked trains) are government owned and run, because franchising on the east coast mainline didn’t work out.

if trains are private why are we paying tax towards them? I genuinely do not understand this stuff, to me it is like paying tax to tesco

I work for the company formerly known as BR, and I apologise. But tbh the service was much worse in the 90s.

I used to have to get southern rail to/from school, I finished school at 3, over the strike period I’d be lucky to be home by 7.30pm. What a joke.

My dad worked for BR for 30 years. It was always underfunded and so was failing. Hence argument for privatisation. Mistake!! Now owned by foreigners.

Compared to Europe prices are higher but there is a lot of cross subsidisation. Lots of trains, especially outside London run half empty

Would reinstating a British Rail type service, charging a tax payer subbed and standardised ticket fare, force the market to up their game & compete?
