Not quite. Tides are caused by the grav pull of the Moon from NORTH & SOUTH, not the towards & away from it. This is why only large bodies have tides!

There are different interpretations of what happens. I always found inertia unsatisfying. That side is still attracted to the moon, just less so 1/

Why are tides more extreme in northern hemisphere. I was in Mass and the tides were about 7ft.
