Every year from January till March, my neighbours prunes their hundred year old magnolia trees because it blocked the pathway or overgrown. They will be later used as compost or firewood. And everytime I upload a reel about collecting his magnolia branches, it went viral and sparked huge debates, ranging from „It’s not a branch. You k***led a whole tree“, „This is fake“, „The cat would knock it down in 5 seconds“, to something as much as irrelevant such as gender discussion. Or „You’re an influencer. Even if you don’t do anything wrong and asked your neighbor’s permission to take the already pruned branches home, people will copy you and go out and cut other people’s trees.“ I always write in the caption very clearly how should this practice be done properly so I don’t think I’m responsible for other people’s action. We can’t and we shouldn’t stop celebrating life just because of some bad actors. I find this practice beautiful and meaningful - giving new life to something that would otherwise be discarded.
