in ontario Canada we can't do that anymore. you need a dedicated neutral in each box that had a device in it.

now the switch box has no neutral which means the owner can't upgrade to smart switches. bring a neutral into switch boxes!

Why use 12 gauge for a light? I don't think this would pass code anymore because some switches require a neutral. Run a 12/3 wire from light to switch
