We use this flinch in vet med to see if cranial nerves are intact and functional. Yes, it’s a learned behavior BUT not necessarily from being hit.

My dogs have never been abused, but one is scared of everything. I have to constantly show her things aren't scary by interacting with them first.

the thing is is I have a dog we raised her from birth never struck her once if you raise your hand too fast she'll flinch it's a natural response😂

I've had my dog for 10 years rescued from an abusive family, still flinches sometimes when I go to pet him even tho I never hit him 🥺 so upsetting
