Most of what people call playing dirty in corporate is just doing the job with the lights on 💡 1️⃣ Sending a short recap email after any verbal decision. It feels like covering yourself, and you are, but it is also why anyone remembers what was agreed six weeks later. 2️⃣ Speaking to people one on one before the meeting. Everyone calls this going behind backs until they realise the meeting was never where the decision happened. 3️⃣ Asking out loud who actually signs this off before you start the work. It feels presumptuous and saves you three weeks of building something for someone with no authority to approve it. 4️⃣ Keeping your own file of what you delivered with the numbers attached. Not ego, just the fact that nobody else is keeping it and you will need it in a room you are not invited to. 5️⃣ Having a real relationship with your manager's manager. If one person is the only route your name travels, your ceiling is set by how they feel that quarter. 6️⃣ Saying yes to new work and naming the trade-off in the same sentence.

If one person is the only route your name travels, your ceiling is set by how they feel that quarter. 6️⃣ Saying yes to new work and naming the trade-off in the same sentence. "Happy to take that, which of these two moves back?" It sounds obstructive in your head and lands as senior every time. 7️⃣ Taking the recruiter call while you are perfectly happy. That is not disloyalty; it is knowing your market rate before you need to know it. 8️⃣ Putting your name back on your idea in the moment. "That builds on what I said earlier" is a full sentence and costs you nothing to say. None of that is manipulation. It is what people who understand organisations do without thinking, and it feels wrong because most of us were taught the work would speak for itself. It does not. Somebody speaks for it, and the question is whether that person is you. Comment ELITE and I'll send you my newsletter where I break down the rest of what actually operates underneath this. #corporatepolitics #careerstrategy #corporatetruths #eliterecruiter #careeradvice
