Update on the situation in DC- Apologies in advance, this video is 6 days old now so there may be changes or updates that I am unaware of. I was out of the country but will be going on a run very soon to get an updated picture as to what DC looks like. This video was from last week and was one of the first few days when the NG was authorized to carry firearms. Here is my biggest concern- When escalation skips steps, that increases the amount of danger that is present for all people involved. If you don’t know what I’m referencing, see my other video where I talk about use of force in the military. The National Guard members I spoke to in DC told me they can’t arrest anyone themselves—they can only call law enforcement for backup. From what I saw, there were no less than lethal weapons issued to them (baton, pepper spray, taser). That means if a situation escalates, they jump from using their hands straight to lethal force, skipping the critical steps in between. Without the proper tools, the use of force continuum gets sped up—and that’s what makes this setup even more dangerous. Again I say all of this as a veteran, however I understand that the situation seems to be changing daily so I will get another update soon now that I am back in the US. Last thing (because I know someone is going to say it), I am well aware of detainment vs arrests and what the difference is. Some of my questions to the NG were a little more open ended because I wanted to let them explain how they see these situations going if things were to escalate. And again, I am not here to demonize the military. I was very proud to have served. I totally understand these guys are out there because they are told to be. I never heckled or instigated because that wouldn’t accomplish my goal of finding out info.
