I was always told they didn’t use diesel because it jell up in the cold of higher altitudes. Is that true at all?

so, is torque not worth it for airplanes like it is for cars? cause the diesels will produce far more torque than a gasser.

Let's note that before Diamond switched to Austro, the Thielert had an aluminum block, at 350lb, and made more power than a io320 above 4k ft.

DA42 10.5 g/hr total at 70% cruise, the engines are Mercedes Diesel engine converted I believe. (Source: I fly them)

how cheap is fuel? or rather how much of the operating costs are fuel? could you run the petrol engines on LPG?

Aren't Continental CD-265 Jet A piston engines as light as avgas, the layout configuration of the engines is the same.

Regular diesel gels at altitude. Aviation diesel is known as JET FUEL. Compression ignition engines can run on jet fuel. its made the same at refinery
