The 3G MIG Test: Where Welders Are Made Look, 3G vertical-up MIG isn’t just another test plate. It’s the gatekeeper. When you stand in front of that beveled plate, hood down, gun in hand, gravity is working against you every second. That puddle wants to fall. Your wire wants to stub. Your legs start to ache from holding that perfect stance. That’s exactly why passing 3G matters. This test exposes everything: - Your patience - Rush it and you get cold lap or excessive reinforcement. 3G forces you to slow down and read the puddle, not fight it. - Your consistency - One bad pass and the whole cap fails. You need the same travel angle, same stick-out, same motion from root to cap. No hiding. - Your mindset - At 2 inches into the weld, your neck is hot, BBs are hitting your gloves, and you still have 8 inches to go. Do you quit or adjust and keep burning Remember this during your test: 1. Root is everything. If your root penetration sucks, no amount of pretty cap welds will save you. Get comfortable, run your first pass like your cert depends on it - because it does. Slight weave, watch both edges tie in. 2. Heat is your friend and enemy. Too cold = lack of fusion. Too hot = it all drops out. Find that sweet spot where the puddle is fluid but controllable. Usually 17-19V, 160-200 ipm wire for .035, but YOU know your machine. 3. Restarts will make or break you. Feather that crater, burn back into it hot, no porosity. Inspectors love to bend right on a restart. 4. Your body welds, not just your hand. Plant your feet. Brace your elbows. Use your knees to rise steady. If you’re shaking, stop and reset. One good bead beats three rushed ones. The truth nobody tells you: You will fail coupons. Everyone does. Maybe your first one cracks in the bend. Maybe you get undercut. Good. That failure is tuition. Cut it, etch it, see where you went wrong. Then run another plate. And another. The guys who pass 3G aren’t the ones with magic hands. They’re the ones who showed up at 6am to practice before work. Who stayed late burning plates when everyone else went home. Who got comfortable being uncomfortable. That 3G cert is not just a piece of paper for your wallet. It’s proof you can control molten metal when physics says you shouldn’t be able to. It’s proof you can stay calm when the stakes are high. Companies know this. That’s why they ask for it. So when you test, don’t think “I hope I pass.” Think “I’ve put in the reps. I own this joint.” Take your time on fit-up. Clean your plate like it’s surgery. Check your gas flow. Run a test bead on scrap. Then breathe, drop your hood, and lay down the best weld you’re capable of today. Vertical up beats vertical down. Hard work beats talent. And passed 3G plates beat every excuse.@Usa🇺🇸Welder Art @Weld Dime Customs @Muhamadharta tata ata welding #ikkewelds #creatorsearchinsights #fypシ゚viral #migwelding #fyppppppppppppppppppppppp
