Over the years I got a lot of messages that asked me to be responsible and to promote this or that way how dogs should interact with each other and how I should show Ninja in the social media area. Most of the time people complained that I should not walk him unleashed. The truth is if I am really responsible I can just promote the following message. For me the leash can be a tool of slavery and oppression or it can be a tool to bond with a dog, a tool of security and also control in a way that benefits a dog or other beings. It really depends on the individuals on each side of it. Sometimes Ninja and I love to use a leash, sometimes he asks me to be leashed and often our walks are the best while he is unleashed. But in every case I must make sure we are responsible to our environment (whatever that means, depending on your own experience I guess). No leash doesn’t mean no control. Freedom comes with a price of responsibility. This kind of responsibility can be tought to most dogs. The best trained dogs most of the time are street dogs because the street demands a lot of responsibility. One of the biggest source in behavior problems is the believe that dogs must be walked leashed and our human audacity that we think we know how to handle and to understand dogs. It’s actually shocking to see how little knowledge most dog handlers actually have about their “best fiend” and their dog communication. Ok what do I wanna say? I hope that in the future we live in a world where its more common to walk your dog without leash then with one. I hope that we push the idea of education over the idea of limiting animals because its easier for us. I want us to allow ourselves todo mistakes and to let our dogs do mistakes to learn from it. I want us to stop calling our dogs baby and to mistreat them.
