I've seen so many posts of inspiring c section mummies. I must admit, some of the posts have been quite triggering (hate that word!). I had the worse birth experience and so seeing mums in theatre has bought it all back. I went into the hospital thinking I'd have a nature birth and push Ethan into this World. After having a sweep, it bought on contractions but my waters hadn't broken so I was sent home. We went back a few hours later and I was only 1cm dilated. After being examined and 'stretch' I was admitted. I then endured an epidural (which I didn't want initially) followed by 16 hours on the hormone drip. I wasn't allowed off the bed as Ethan's heart rate dropped if I did. After far too many checks, they realised they didn't break all my waters hence why I wasn't progressing. I only made it to 6cm. By this point I was exhausted and so was Ethan. His heart rate wasn't stable so they made the decision to proceed with an emergency c section. At that moment, I felt like a failure and that my body had failed me. Going into theatre was terrifying and wasn't helped by different staff speaking rudely to each other. It did not put my mind at ease. I was shaking uncontrollably and Peter was singing to try and calm me down. Ethan was born and whisked away. I wasn't told anything but I heard him cry. He wasn't shown to me for such a long time. I had no delayed cord cutting, no skin to skin. It was everything I didn't want. I finally saw my beautiful boy and we were sent to the ward. I didn't even get to enjoy my tea and toast. Sadly our poor experience didn't end there. For two weeks after birth, I felt unwell. I thought I had a UTI but after seeing my health visitor who told me to go straight back to maternity ward (you can go back there up to 28 days after birth) I had a scan (after insisting on one, they wanted to just do bloods) they discovered I had remained placenta. I had to go under general anaesthetic the next day to remove 8cm by 4cm placenta which still had blood flowing to it. I could have contracted sepsis and died. This had such an impact on me. C section mums are so brave. #csection #csectionawarenessmonth #csectionmama
